Relationships are at the heart of everything. When they are working well life feels rich, supported and meaningful. When they are not — when communication breaks down, when past hurts keep resurfacing, when you find yourself repeating the same painful patterns over and over — the impact touches every area of your life. Whether you are struggling with a specific relationship challenge, working through the aftermath of a difficult relationship, trying to understand why you keep ending up in the same situations, or simply wanting to show up better for the people you love — Newcastle Hypnotherapy offers a uniquely effective approach that goes deeper than conventional relationship counselling and produces change that actually lasts.
Relationship difficulties are rarely just about the other person. They are almost always rooted in our own emotional patterns, attachment history, subconscious beliefs and unresolved experiences. That is exactly where we work.
Hypnotherapy for Emotional Patterns and Relationships:
Clinical hypnotherapy works directly with the subconscious beliefs and emotional patterns that drive our behaviour in relationships — the fear of abandonment, the need for control, the inability to trust, the tendency to self-sabotage or push people away. By working at the subconscious level we help these patterns change at their root, producing shifts in relationship behaviour that conscious effort alone cannot achieve.
NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming):
NLP is extraordinarily powerful for relationship work. We use specific techniques to change the way you process and respond to relationship dynamics — improving communication, reducing reactivity, building emotional resilience and helping you show up in relationships as the person you actually want to be rather than the person old patterns make you.
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique):
Relationships carry emotional weight — the hurt of past experiences, the anxiety of vulnerability, the grief of loss or rejection. EFT works directly with those emotional layers, clearing the charge from past experiences so they stop colouring present relationships and allowing genuine emotional openness and connection to emerge.
Attachment and Inner Child Work:
Many of our most persistent relationship patterns originate in early childhood experiences — the attachment style we developed, the messages we received about love, safety and our own worth. We work with these deeper layers using hypnotherapy and specific therapeutic techniques that gently and effectively update those early patterns without requiring prolonged or painful exploration.
— Nutritional Support for Emotional Wellbeing: The relationship between diet, gut health, hormones and emotional regulation is significant and frequently overlooked. Blood sugar instability, nutritional deficiencies and gut inflammation all affect mood, emotional reactivity and our capacity for patience, empathy and connection. Our in-house nutritional therapist can assess and address these physical factors as part of a comprehensive emotional wellbeing programme.
All sessions are available in person at our Gosforth clinic in Newcastle upon Tyne, or online for clients across Sunderland, Durham, Darlington, Northumberland and the wider UK.

We work where the patterns actually live: Relationship difficulties are almost always driven by subconscious patterns formed earlier in life. Talking about them in conventional counselling can provide insight and understanding — but insight alone rarely changes behaviour. Hypnotherapy and NLP work at the subconscious level where the patterns actually operate, producing genuine and lasting behavioural change rather than just awareness.
Individual focus produces relationship results: We work with individuals rather than couples — focusing entirely on your patterns, your emotional history and your growth. Many of our clients find that changing their own patterns produces profound improvements in their relationships without the other person needing to be in the room at all.
Nutrition and emotional regulation: The physical dimension of emotional wellbeing — the role of diet, gut health and nutritional balance in mood, reactivity and emotional resilience — is something almost no other relationship or emotional wellbeing practice addresses. We do — and for many clients it is a genuinely transformational piece of the picture.
No — and this is one of the most important things to understand about our approach. We work with individuals rather than couples. When one person genuinely changes their subconscious patterns, communication style and emotional responses the dynamic of the relationship changes — sometimes profoundly — even without the other person attending therapy. Many of our clients have found that their own individual work produced more positive change in their relationships than couples therapy had previously achieved.
Yes — and it is one of the areas where our approach is particularly effective. Grief is a deeply individual process and there is no right way or right timeline for it. What hypnotherapy, NLP and EFT can do is help process the emotional weight of loss — reducing the acute pain, addressing complicated grief, releasing guilt or unresolved emotion and helping the mind and nervous system move through grief in a way that feels supported and manageable rather than overwhelming and endless. We approach grief with the gentleness and respect it deserves.
Yes — and this is one of the most common and most treatable presentations we work with. Repeating relationship patterns almost always has its roots in early attachment experiences and subconscious beliefs about love, safety and self-worth that were formed long before you were consciously aware of them. These patterns are not character flaws and they are not permanent. Hypnotherapy and NLP work directly with the subconscious programming behind them — and when that programming changes the patterns change with it. Often permanently and often relatively quickly.
Yes. Anger in relationships is almost always a secondary emotion — a surface expression of deeper feelings like hurt, fear, shame or helplessness. We work with those underlying emotions directly, using hypnotherapy, NLP and EFT to reduce the emotional reactivity that drives anger and replace it with greater self-awareness, emotional regulation and the ability to communicate needs clearly and calmly. Many clients are genuinely surprised by how quickly and completely their anger patterns shift when the underlying emotional drivers are addressed.
Couples counselling works with the relationship dynamic between two people — exploring communication, conflict and connection together. Our approach works with the individual — specifically the subconscious patterns, emotional history and psychological wiring that each person brings to their relationships. This is deeper, faster and often more effective than surface-level communication work — because it addresses the root of the patterns rather than just the ways they play out. It is also available to people who are single, who cannot bring a partner to therapy or whose partner is unwilling to attend.
