Chronic pain is relentless. It affects your sleep, your mood, your relationships and your ability to do the things you love. You may have tried medication, physiotherapy, countless appointments — and while some things have helped a little, the pain is still there, still shaping your life in ways you never wanted. What most pain treatments miss is the role the brain and nervous system play in the experience of pain. At Newcastle Hypnotherapy we work with that connection directly — helping your mind and body communicate differently, so pain loses its grip on your life. Our clients across Newcastle upon Tyne and the wider North East regularly describe results they genuinely didn't think were possible.
Pain is not just a physical event — it is an experience created by the brain. That's not to say it isn't real. It absolutely is. But it does mean there is far more we can do about it than most people are told.
Hypnotherapy for Pain Management:
Clinical hypnotherapy is one of the most well-researched non-pharmaceutical approaches to chronic pain available. We use specific hypnotic techniques to change the way your brain processes and interprets pain signals — reducing the intensity of the pain experience, improving your ability to cope and in many cases achieving significant and lasting relief. This is not distraction or positive thinking. It is a clinically recognised intervention that works at a neurological level.
NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming):
The way we think about and relate to our pain has a direct impact on how we experience it. NLP gives us powerful tools to change those mental and emotional relationships — reducing the fear, frustration and helplessness that often accompany chronic pain and make it worse.
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique):
Pain and emotion are deeply connected. Stress, anxiety, unresolved trauma and suppressed emotion can all amplify the pain experience significantly. EFT works to clear those emotional layers, often producing a noticeable reduction in pain intensity as a result.
Nutritional Therapy:
Chronic inflammation is a major driver of many types of persistent pain. Our in-house nutritional therapist can assess your diet and, where appropriate, use optimal health testing to identify foods contributing to inflammation in your body — then build a practical nutrition plan to reduce that inflammatory load and support your body's natural healing processes.
All sessions are available in person at our Gosforth clinic in Newcastle upon Tyne, or online for clients across Sunderland, Durham, Darlington, Northumberland and the wider UK.
We treat pain as what it actually is: Pain is a brain and nervous system experience, not just a body experience. Our approach works with the full picture — mind, emotion and body together — which is why we achieve results that purely physical treatments often can't.
Nutrition and testing alongside therapy:
Chronic inflammation drives chronic pain for many people. Our in-house optimal health testing identifies the specific dietary triggers contributing to your inflammation — something most pain clinics simply don't offer.

Yes — and this is supported by a substantial body of clinical research. Hypnotherapy works by influencing the way the brain processes pain signals, effectively turning down the volume on the pain experience. It has been used successfully for chronic back pain, fibromyalgia, arthritis, nerve pain, headaches and migraines, cancer-related pain and many other conditions. It is not a placebo and it is not simply distraction. Studies using brain imaging have shown measurable changes in pain processing in people who have received hypnotherapy. Our clients across Newcastle and the North East consistently achieve meaningful reductions in both pain intensity and the impact pain has on their daily lives.
We work with a wide range of chronic and persistent pain conditions including back pain, neck pain, fibromyalgia, arthritis, nerve pain, headaches and migraines, post-surgical pain, phantom limb pain, pelvic pain and pain associated with conditions like IBS and endometriosis. We also work with the emotional and psychological impact of living with pain — the anxiety, low mood, sleep disruption and loss of identity that chronic pain so often brings with it. If you're unsure whether we can help with your specific condition, book a free call and we'll be honest with you.
Absolutely. Hypnotherapy, NLP and EFT work alongside any medication you are currently taking and do not interfere with medical treatment in any way. Many of our clients come to us specifically because they want to reduce their reliance on medication over time — and while that is never our goal in itself, it is something that happens naturally for many people as their pain reduces. We always recommend staying in close contact with your GP or medical team throughout.
Chronic inflammation is one of the most significant and underappreciated drivers of persistent pain. Certain foods trigger inflammatory responses in the body that can directly worsen pain levels — and many people are eating those foods every day without realising it. Our in-house nutritional therapist uses optimal health testing to identify precisely which foods are causing inflammation in your body specifically, then builds a targeted nutrition plan to reduce that inflammatory load. For many of our clients across Newcastle and the North East this alone produces a noticeable improvement in their pain levels — and combined with hypnotherapy the results can be remarkable.
No. We work with people who have been living with chronic pain for months, years and in some cases decades. The brain's ability to change — what neuroscientists call neuroplasticity — means that pain pathways can be altered regardless of how long they have been established. The longer pain has been present the more ingrained the patterns tend to be, which may mean a longer programme is needed, but it absolutely does not mean change is impossible. We have helped many people across Newcastle, Gosforth, Sunderland and Northumberland who had given up hope of feeling better — and we would love to talk to you about what might be possible.
