You already know you want to stop. You may have tried before — perhaps many times. And yet the habit or addiction keeps pulling you back, stronger than your willpower, louder than your intentions, always finding a way to win. This is not weakness. This is not lack of character. Addictions and deeply ingrained habits are subconscious patterns — wired into the brain through repetition, emotion and neurological reinforcement — and they cannot be overcome by willpower alone because willpower operates at the conscious level while the addiction lives somewhere far deeper. At Newcastle Hypnotherapy we work at that deeper level — helping people across Newcastle upon Tyne and the wider North East break free from the habits and addictions that have been running their lives, often for years or decades.
Breaking an addiction or habit is not about white-knuckling your way through cravings. It is about changing the subconscious patterns, emotional drivers and neurological associations that make the behaviour feel necessary in the first place. That is what we do.
Hypnotherapy for Addiction and Habits:
Clinical hypnotherapy works directly with the subconscious mind — the place where addictive patterns are stored and reinforced. We help your brain form new associations, reduce the pull of cravings, address the emotional needs the habit has been meeting and install new, healthier responses in place of the old destructive ones. Many clients describe a profound shift in their relationship with the substance or behaviour — not just reduced cravings but a genuine change in how they think and feel about it.
NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming):
Addictions and habits are maintained by specific mental and emotional patterns — triggers, rituals, internal dialogue, emotional states that precede the behaviour. NLP gives us precise and powerful tools to identify and dismantle those patterns, breaking the chain of association that leads from trigger to behaviour and replacing it with something entirely different.
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique):
Most addictions and habits serve an emotional function — managing stress, numbing pain, filling a void, providing comfort or reward. EFT works directly with those underlying emotional drivers, clearing the emotional need that the habit has been meeting so that the pull of the behaviour reduces naturally and permanently.
Nutritional Therapy:
The relationship between addiction, habits and nutrition is profound and frequently overlooked. Blood sugar instability drives cravings powerfully. Gut health affects mood and impulse regulation. Nutritional deficiencies created by long-term substance use can perpetuate the cycle of addiction. Our in-house nutritional therapist assesses these physical factors and creates a targeted plan to support your body through the process of breaking free — reducing cravings, stabilising mood and supporting the physical recovery your body needs.
Relapse Prevention and Ongoing Support:
Breaking a habit or addiction is one thing — staying free is another. We build relapse prevention strategies directly into your programme, giving you the mental tools, emotional resources and practical techniques to maintain your freedom long after your sessions end.
All sessions are available in person at our Gosforth clinic in Newcastle upon Tyne, or online for clients across Sunderland, Durham, Darlington, Northumberland and the wider UK.

We go where willpower cannot:
Willpower is a conscious resource and it depletes. Hypnotherapy, NLP and EFT work at the subconscious level where the addiction actually lives — which is why they produce lasting change when willpower-based approaches repeatedly fail.
We address the whole picture:
Addiction and habits have psychological, emotional and physical dimensions. Our team addresses all three simultaneously — with clinical hypnotherapy and NLP for the mind, EFT for the emotional drivers and nutritional therapy for the physical side. This comprehensive approach is why our results hold up long term.

Yes — and it works because it addresses addiction where it actually lives. Most addiction treatment focuses on the conscious, behavioural level — providing strategies, support and accountability for not engaging in the addictive behaviour. This is valuable but it leaves the subconscious drivers largely untouched. Hypnotherapy works at the subconscious level, changing the associations, emotional patterns and neurological wiring that make the behaviour feel compelling or necessary. When those deeper patterns change, maintaining freedom becomes significantly easier — not a daily battle but a natural state. Our clients across Newcastle and the North East consistently describe a shift that feels different from anything they have tried before.
Previous attempts to quit are not evidence that you cannot succeed — they are evidence that the approaches you have tried have not addressed the real drivers of your addiction. Willpower, cold turkey, group support and talking therapies all work at the conscious level. If the subconscious drivers remain unchanged the pull of the addiction remains too. We work at a fundamentally different level and that is why people come to us after multiple failed attempts and find that this time genuinely feels different. How many times you have tried before is not a barrier to success with us.
More than most people realise. Blood sugar instability is one of the most powerful and underappreciated drivers of cravings — particularly for alcohol, sugar, processed food and stimulants. When blood sugar drops the brain generates intense cravings for fast energy sources and mood-altering substances. Long-term substance use also depletes specific nutrients — B vitamins, zinc, magnesium — that are essential for mood regulation, impulse control and the ability to experience pleasure. Without addressing these deficiencies the neurochemical environment that drove the addiction in the first place remains largely intact. Our in-house nutritional therapist assesses these factors specifically and builds a plan to support your body and brain through the recovery process — something almost no other therapy practice in the North East offers as part of an addiction programme.
Yes. We work with alcohol use across the full spectrum — from habitual drinking that has got out of hand to established alcohol dependency. For clients with physical alcohol dependency we always recommend working alongside your GP, as sudden cessation of alcohol can have physical implications that require medical supervision. Within that framework our programme addresses the psychological drivers, emotional patterns and nutritional factors that maintain alcohol dependency — giving you the most comprehensive support available. We will be completely honest with you during your free assessment call about the best approach for your specific situation.
This varies depending on the nature and duration of the habit or addiction and the complexity of the underlying drivers. Some habits — particularly physical ones like nail biting or specific compulsive behaviours — can respond very quickly, sometimes within two to four sessions. More established addictions with deeper emotional roots typically require a longer programme of six to twelve sessions. We will give you a clear and honest picture during your free assessment call so you know exactly what to expect before you commit to anything.
