If you have experienced a panic attack, you know exactly how frightening it is. The racing heart, the inability to breathe, the overwhelming sense that something is catastrophically wrong — or that you are dying. And then comes the fear of the next one. The avoidance, the hypervigilance, the way panic quietly starts to shrink your world. What most people are never told is that panic attacks are not random, not dangerous and not something you simply have to live with. They are a learned response — created by your nervous system and maintained by your subconscious mind. And that means they can be unlearned. At Newcastle Hypnotherapy, we have helped hundreds of people across Newcastle upon Tyne and the wider North East break free from panic completely — and we can help you too.
Panic attacks feel physical but they are driven by the mind. Specifically by the subconscious patterns, beliefs and nervous system responses that trigger the fight or flight reaction when there is no real threat present. That is exactly where we work.
Hypnotherapy for Panic Attacks:
Clinical hypnotherapy works directly with the subconscious mind to identify and dismantle the triggers and patterns driving your panic response. We help your nervous system learn that it is safe — replacing the automatic panic reaction with calm, control and confidence. Most clients are genuinely surprised by how quickly the shift happens and how natural it feels.
NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming):
Panic attacks are almost always accompanied by specific mental patterns — catastrophic thinking, worst-case imagery, hypervigilance to bodily sensations. NLP gives us precise, fast-acting tools to interrupt and change those patterns, removing the mental fuel that keeps panic alive.
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique):
EFT is one of the most powerful tools available for calming an overactivated nervous system. By working with specific acupressure points while focusing on the feelings and triggers associated with panic, EFT can rapidly reduce the intensity of the panic response — often producing noticeable relief within a single session.
Breathing & Regulation Techniques:
Alongside the deeper therapeutic work we teach you practical, proven techniques to regulate your nervous system in the moment — so that if you feel panic beginning to rise you have the tools to stop it in its tracks immediately.
Nutritional Therapy:
The relationship between diet, blood sugar, caffeine, gut health and anxiety is significant and frequently overlooked. Our in-house nutritional therapist can identify whether dietary factors are contributing to your panic attacks and create a simple plan to reduce that physiological trigger load.
All sessions are available in person at our Gosforth clinic in Newcastle upon Tyne, or online for clients across Sunderland, Durham, Darlington, Northumberland and the wider UK.
We stop panic at the source:
Breathing techniques and medication can help manage panic in the moment. We go further — working with the subconscious patterns and nervous system responses that are generating the panic in the first place, so the attacks stop rather than just being managed.
Fast results when you need them most:
Panic attacks are acutely distressing and we treat them with the urgency they deserve. Our clients across Newcastle and the North East consistently report meaningful reductions in both the frequency and intensity of attacks within just a few sessions.
A complete team and a complete approach:
Hypnotherapy, NLP, EFT and nutritional therapy working together gives us more tools to tackle panic than any single-discipline therapist can offer — and means your programme is built around what will actually work for you specifically.
No — although they feel absolutely terrifying in the moment, panic attacks are not physically dangerous. What happens during a panic attack is an extreme activation of your fight or flight response — your body is doing exactly what it is designed to do in a perceived emergency, just at the wrong time and in the wrong context. Your heart races, your breathing changes, adrenaline floods your system — all completely normal physiological responses that will pass. Understanding this is an important first step, but it is rarely enough on its own to stop panic attacks from happening. That is where we come in.
Panic attacks happen because the subconscious mind has learned to perceive certain situations, sensations or thoughts as threatening — and triggers the fight or flight response automatically in response to them. This learning often happens after an initial frightening experience, but it can also build gradually over time through accumulated stress and anxiety. Once the pattern is established the subconscious becomes hypervigilant — scanning constantly for the trigger and firing the panic response faster and more easily each time. Hypnotherapy, NLP and EFT work directly with this learned pattern and change it.
Yes — and this is one of the areas where hypnotherapy produces some of its most dramatic results. Because hypnotherapy works directly with the subconscious patterns driving the panic response, it gets to the root of the problem rather than managing the symptoms. Most of our clients across Newcastle and the North East experience a significant reduction in panic attacks within the first few sessions, and many find they stop entirely. We will give you a clear and honest picture of what to expect during your free assessment call.
Absolutely — and this is one of the most important things we want you to know. You do not need to come into the clinic to get help. All of our therapy is available via secure online video sessions that are just as effective as in-person work. Many of our clients who come to us with severe panic disorder specifically choose online sessions at the start of their programme, and the results are consistently strong. Your panic attacks will not stop you from getting the help you need.
CBT is a well-established treatment for panic disorder that works primarily at the conscious level — helping you identify and challenge the thoughts and beliefs that fuel panic. It has genuine value for many people. Our approach goes deeper. Hypnotherapy and NLP work at the subconscious level where the panic pattern actually lives, while EFT works directly with the nervous system response. Many of our clients in Newcastle and across the North East come to us having already had CBT with partial results — and find that working at the deeper subconscious level produces the complete resolution that conscious-level work alone did not achieve.
