PTSD & Trauma Treatment Newcastle | Hypnotherapy for Trauma Recovery

Newcastle's award-winning hypnotherapy practice offers compassionate, effective trauma treatment for people across the North East — helping you process what happened, release its hold and move forward with your life.

What Happened to You Does Not Have to Control the Rest of Your Life.

Trauma changes things. It changes how you feel, how you think, how you respond to the world and how safe you feel within yourself. Whether you experienced a single devastating event or a prolonged period of distressing circumstances, whether your trauma is recent or something you have been carrying for years — the impact is real, it is valid and it deserves proper, skilled attention. PTSD and trauma are not signs of weakness. They are the mind and body's natural response to experiences that were too overwhelming to fully process at the time. At Newcastle Hypnotherapy we work with trauma carefully, compassionately and effectively — helping people across Newcastle upon Tyne and the wider North East find genuine relief, lasting recovery and a sense of themselves that trauma has not been able to reach.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE BEFORE WE BEGIN

We want to be clear about how we approach trauma work. We never push clients to relive or re-experience traumatic events in detail. Our techniques are specifically designed to process and neutralise the emotional charge of traumatic memories without requiring you to narrate or repeatedly revisit what happened. Your safety, comfort and pace are our absolute priority throughout. If you are currently under the care of a psychiatrist or mental health team we will always work collaboratively alongside that care, never in opposition to it.

HOW WE HELP.

Trauma and PTSD are held in the body and the nervous system as much as in the conscious mind. Effective treatment needs to work at every level — and that is precisely what our approach does.

Hypnotherapy for PTSD and Trauma:
Clinical hypnotherapy is a powerful and gentle tool for trauma processing. Working in a deeply relaxed state we are able to help the mind approach traumatic memories from a position of safety and distance — processing and neutralising the emotional charge without requiring direct re-exposure or detailed recounting. The result is that memories which once triggered intense distress become simply memories — present but no longer overwhelming.

NLP Trauma Techniques:
NLP contains several highly effective techniques specifically developed for trauma and PTSD including the Visual Kinaesthetic Dissociation technique — often called the NLP Trauma Cure. This technique allows the mind to reprocess traumatic memories from a detached, observer perspective, rapidly reducing their emotional intensity without the client needing to relive the experience in detail. It is safe, remarkably effective and often produces significant relief in a single session.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique):
EFT is one of the most extensively researched approaches to PTSD available — with multiple clinical studies demonstrating its effectiveness including research conducted with combat veterans. It works by combining focused attention on the traumatic memory with stimulation of specific acupressure points, rapidly calming the nervous system's response to the memory and reducing the emotional intensity associated with it. Many clients experience profound relief through EFT that other approaches have not been able to achieve.

Somatic Awareness and Nervous System Regulation:
Trauma is stored in the body as well as the mind. We work with the physical dimensions of trauma — the tension, hypervigilance, startle responses and bodily sensations that are part of the traumatic response — helping the nervous system learn that it is safe to relax, rest and return to a regulated baseline state.

Nutritional Therapy:
Chronic stress and trauma place an enormous burden on the body's physiological systems. Cortisol dysregulation, adrenal fatigue, gut disruption and nutritional depletion are all common consequences of prolonged trauma and PTSD. Our in-house nutritional therapist assesses these physical impacts and creates a targeted plan to support your body's recovery alongside the psychological work — addressing the whole person rather than just the mind.

All sessions are available in person at our Gosforth clinic in Newcastle upon Tyne, or online for clients across Sunderland, Durham, Darlington, Northumberland and the wider UK.

WHY NEWCASTLE HYPNOTHERAPY?

Safe, skilled and compassionate trauma work:
Trauma requires a different quality of care than other therapeutic work. Our team approaches trauma with the skill, sensitivity and clinical experience it demands — always prioritising your safety, comfort and pace above everything else.

Techniques that work without re-traumatisation:
Our approach to trauma is specifically designed to produce relief without requiring you to relive what happened in detail. This is one of the most important distinctions between our approach and traditional trauma-focused talking therapies — and for many clients it makes the difference between being able to engage with treatment and not.

Whole-person recovery:
Trauma affects the mind, the nervous system, the body and the brain's chemistry simultaneously. Our team addresses every dimension — psychological, emotional, physiological and nutritional — to support the most complete recovery possible.

FAQ's
PTSD & Trauma Treatment Newcastle
Hypnotherapy for Trauma Recovery

Q: Is hypnotherapy safe for trauma and PTSD?

Yes — when delivered by a trained, experienced and appropriately qualified therapist, hypnotherapy is a safe and effective approach for trauma and PTSD. The key distinction is that our techniques are designed to work with traumatic material from a position of safety and distance rather than through direct re-exposure or detailed recounting. We never push clients further or faster than feels comfortable and we always work at your pace. If you have any concerns about whether our approach is right for your specific situation we will discuss them openly during your free assessment call.

Q: What is the difference between PTSD and complex PTSD?

PTSD typically develops following a single traumatic event or a defined period of trauma — a road accident, an assault, a disaster. Complex PTSD — sometimes written as C-PTSD — develops as a result of prolonged, repeated trauma, often occurring in childhood or in situations where escape was difficult or impossible, such as domestic abuse, childhood neglect or prolonged combat exposure. Complex PTSD tends to have a broader and deeper impact on a person's sense of self, their relationships and their ability to regulate emotion. Both PTSD and complex PTSD respond well to the approaches we use at Newcastle Hypnotherapy, though complex PTSD typically requires a longer and more carefully paced programme.

Q: Do I have to talk about what happened in detail?

No — and for many of our clients this is the most important thing to know before they make contact. Our primary techniques for trauma — including NLP Visual Kinaesthetic Dissociation and specific hypnotherapy approaches — are specifically designed to process traumatic material without requiring detailed recounting of events. You do not need to tell us everything that happened in order for the treatment to work. We need enough to understand your situation and tailor the approach — but we will never push you to go further than feels safe and comfortable.

Q: I have been in therapy before for my trauma and it did not help — why would this be different?

Traditional trauma-focused talking therapies require clients to repeatedly revisit and narrate traumatic experiences, which can itself be retraumatising and is not effective for everyone. Our approach works differently — accessing and processing traumatic material at the subconscious and neurological level rather than through conscious recounting. We also address the physiological and nutritional dimensions of trauma recovery that talking therapies typically do not touch. Many of our clients across Newcastle and the North East come to us having had years of therapy with limited relief — and find that our approach finally produces the shift they had been looking for.

Q: How long will trauma recovery take?

This varies significantly depending on the nature, duration and complexity of the trauma, how long it has been present and how it has affected you. Single-incident trauma often responds very well within four to eight sessions. Complex or prolonged trauma typically requires a longer programme — though many clients notice meaningful relief from the very first sessions. We will give you a clear, honest and realistic picture during your free assessment call and we will never keep you in therapy longer than is genuinely needed.
