How to Get the Best From Your Anxiety Therapy Sessions

July 13, 20263 min read

Over the last 10 years of helping thousands of people with anxiety disorders, we have noticed clear patterns in who resolves their anxiety faster and who takes longer.

This guide shares the do's and do nots to help you get the best from your anxiety therapy sessions.

1. Be honest with your therapist

It really helps your therapist help you when you're honest about your symptoms, your situation and any trauma from your past. We understand that some people feel ashamed of things that happened before, but a good therapist will never judge you or your circumstances.

2. Be willing to do your homework

Some people believe hypnotherapy and therapy is simply something a therapist does to you. Our method for resolving anxiety faster involves a small amount of homework each day. We do this because we're working to rewire your neural pathways, moving you away from old patterns of anxiety and creating new ones that help you feel calm, relaxed and in control. Clients who practise their homework and listen to their hypnotic anxiety track typically resolve their anxiety in 4 to 6 weeks.

3. Engage in the process

Being a good student, taking an interest in the process, asking questions and doing your homework leads to far faster and better results than not engaging.

4. Avoid doing two or more types of therapy at once

Over the years we've worked with anxiety clients who were also doing CBT or counselling at the same time. It's a great sign of commitment, but doing two types of therapy together often complicates the process and can undo any progress. Focusing on one therapy at a time is proven to give far better results.

5. Give your anxiety therapy the attention and time it deserves

A clear pattern we see, especially among busy professionals, is that time for themselves or their therapy is never a priority. Examples include taking calls during sessions, skipping breaks, not eating well and rearranging sessions at short notice. Time for ourselves and our mental health is needed every day, and sadly many professionals put their career first, often with costly results.

6. Complete your therapy sessions in a timely manner

For the best results, it's important to attend your sessions as advised by your therapist. Typically, one session a week over 4 to 6 weeks works best for our clients. Following this advice saves you time and money.

7. Never be afraid to ask for help

Everyone's journey through anxiety therapy is a little different. Some people move through it easily, while others struggle with a particular exercise or technique. Your therapist is there to guide you through the process and help with anything that comes up.

8. Give your anxiety therapy a chance

Self-sabotage is something we see regularly, especially when big gains aren't seen in the first week or two. Anxiety is never resolved overnight, and many breakthroughs happen after a couple of weeks.

9. Don't leave your anxiety therapy until it's too late

Sadly, each month we're contacted by people who have struggled with anxiety disorders for years. The longer anxiety is left, the harder and more expensive therapy can become. As soon as you realise you have an anxiety issue, take the steps to resolve it. Anxiety rarely gets better without making changes and asking for help.

Our aim is always to help everyone resolve their anxiety and other mental health issues as quickly as possible. Your journey should be fun, interesting and a positive, life-changing experience. Don't just take our word for it, you can read hundreds of five-star reviews from real clients who have been through the process.
